Regensburg is the first place in Germany where card playing was banned (in 1378, p. 13). One of the earliest depictions of people playing cards can be found on the Regensburg „Minneteppich“ (love tapestry) from around 1410/20, the first Regensburg cardmakers known by name date from the end of the 15th century, the first surviving playing cards are from the 18th century and the history of playing cards in Regensburg ends with the 19th century. The rich yield of the authors is now available in these “Studien zur Spielkarte” (Playing card studies) No. 55.
